Stolen is probably not the word I (or young people I’ve spoken to) would use.
But they would say it has been made more uncertain, more difficult and less hopeful.
You see kids in high school today or undergraduates have never known a Europe with borders. A passport is little more than an administrative formality when you hop onto a plane. A great many won’t even ever have applied for a visa.
